Tom Holland

About

Tom Holland is a fresh curd, light and quick, but with enough depth to hold a whole universe. He entered the screen still young, and never lost that sense of wide-eyed discovery. Watch him in The Impossible, a child navigating a disaster with a raw, unvarnished fear that sets the tone for the whole film. Captain America: Civil War let him swing into a much bigger world as Spider-Man, all nervous energy and quick wit, never quite believing his luck. Spider-Man: No Way Home then asked for a much heavier turn, and Holland let the easy charm curdle into something more desperate and burdened. In Cherry, he leaned into an entirely different register as a returning soldier, showing the weariness underneath the surface without losing his character’s complicated drive. He has a way of playing optimism with a hint of something just about to break. Holland is a quick, bright cheese, but one that is maturing with interesting layers beneath the surface.
