Sarah Jessica Parker is farmhouse cheddar, warm and familiar, with a sharper edge than the first taste suggests. She can make a brisk line sound like a thought arriving in real time, then let a pause do the work of a punchline. Sex and the City is the place to start. As Carrie Bradshaw, Parker makes the voice-over feel like a private conversation, while the quick shifts from confidence to uncertainty keep the performance finely balanced. In L.A. Story, her comic timing finds room in a lighter register; in The Family Stone, she lets discomfort gather without making a show of it. The polish is there, but so is the little crumble at the edge. Hocus Pocus brings a more openly playful rhythm, while Divorce gives her a pricklier, more contained space to work in. Parker is good at making control look like effort, and effort like wit. Like farmhouse cheddar, her work feels inviting at first, then leaves a sharper flavour behind.
