Daniel Craig is a slow-aged Gouda, smooth and quietly dense, with a deceptive warmth that hides unexpected depths and a hard, steely core. Start with Layer Cake. He plays a drug dealer trying to get out, and Craig carries the whole film on a sense of controlled tension, every word measured. Casino Royale let him reinvent a famous spy, bringing a raw, physical presence that stripped away the glamour to find something tougher underneath. He made the character feel genuinely dangerous. Then there is Knives Out. Benoit Blanc is a southern detective, all exaggerated drawl and twinkle, and Craig lets a genuine cleverness shine through the theatricality. Logan Lucky shows him having a lot of fun as a jailed demolitions expert with a surprisingly precise way of speaking. He keeps you guessing what is really going on in the silence. Craig understands how to let a performance mature. The longer you watch, the more you find to chew on, and the hard crystals of his craft become clear.
