'Hall of Fame Halloumi'

Austin Abrams is a fresh curd with a quietly unsettled middle. His performances often keep their feelings close to the surface, then let a small shift in timing or posture reveal more than the dialogue does. In The Kings of Summer, he brings a watchful, slightly awkward presence to a story about young people testing their independence. Paper Towns gives him another kind of restraint, while Euphoria lets the unease sit in the pauses as much as in the words. He can make uncertainty feel active, not merely hesitant. There is a soft edge to Abrams’s work, but it does not mean mild. Like fresh curd, he leaves room for unexpected depth.

Somehow, he is always so captivating in every role, and this one is no exception! He carries the movie, mostly just talking to himself, with relatable everyman charm. Few young actors could do this without growing boring or grating.
